As part of my Nurgle Heavyweight series of model, I finished another, the Maggoth Lord Morbidex Twiceborn.
This guy is a happy chap in the fiction, full of good humour as are most Lords of Nurgle (along with more than a few maggots). This was another one of those models that I thought looked fairly time-consuming but might be fairly quick to paint nonetheless – unlike the Great Unclean One, I turned out to be right this time!
The skin of the actual Maggoth accounts for 80% of the model and, being a single colour, this is what made the model quick to do. I did a simple Bugman’s Glow base, Fleshshade on top, and then drybrushed various skin tones on top of that, getting progressively lighter. The pustules were done in the same way as the Great Unclean One (same procedure as I use with bone, going to a Ushabti Bone finish – the only difference is that I used Fleshshade instead of Agrax asfter the base), but because this is a plastic model they came up far better defined.
After that, just a bit of detailing was needed – horns, teeth, and tongue. The latter used Screamer Pink as a base, washed with Druchii Violet and then highlighted with Kislev Flesh. I then liberally gunked it with Nurgle’s Rot, which always works for anything ‘internal’ on these models.
That more or less just left the rider, Morbidex himself and, frankly, he was quicker to do than many models that are not mounted on a big beastie. I started with the saddle (Rhinox Hide base, Nuln Oil wash, Baneblade Brown highlights) and his skin, which copied the Great Unclean One and Glottkin (Nurgling Green base), followed bvy armour and horns, and then the detailing. The only real deviation from standard colours was that his armour had a wash of Agrax as normal for Nurgle models, which was followed by a light Camoshade wash after the highlights had been applied.
For the base, I thought it might be fun to add a little trail of Nurgle’s Rot patches, to suggest the Maggoth is dripping from its open stomach. Nicely gross…
And that was it, one Maggoth Lord complete. A very quick model to do, and would have been faster had I not decided it would be a good idea to do a Great Unclean One and the Glottkin at the same time…
Speaking of the Glottkin, they are just about finished, and would have been featured here today had I not run out of Abaddon Black over the weekend. So, I am currently awaiting a delivery from GW and they will be finished later this week.
As to why I ran out of Abaddon Black, well, all will be revealed tomorrow!
